Darren Hall said this to us sometime in 2012, although we've been working with him since late 2010.
Initially, Darren was struggling to schedule Moody Sewage's workload, and so we built a customer and job scheduling system to automate it.
Our first task was to create a customer database, with details of how often each customer needs to be visited - and then we added a job system which worked out the best order to visit each customer. The job system integrated with Google Calendar, allowing engineers to pick up their job sheets on the move. (We've since replaced Google Calendar with a mobile app that we built for iOS devices).
The next phase was to automate their invoicing so that when a job is completed, the customer is automatically sent an invoice. We transitioned Moody's financial accounting from Quickbooks to Kashflow, allowing us to use the Kashflow API to record an invoice. We also use the Viapost API to automatically send a hard copy in the post to the customer.
After helping to improve their operations, we switched our focus to marketing and sales activities. We've rebuilt their website, run direct marketing campaigns, and implemented a search engine optimisation strategy which has seen them dominate the local listings.
Darren can run his business from anywhere, although you're most likely to spot him catching waves in Watergate Bay, Cornwall.
