Eastbourne software innovators mark their 20th year of transforming businesses through custom software

20 years of problem-solving: from humble garage beginnings to industry leaders

Back to Anniversary Hub

Eastbourne-based software engineering team Switchplane are cracking open the bubbly to celebrate a milestone 20 years in the business. The Switchplane journey began in 2003, when the directors, brothers Joel and Tom Fielder, brought their shared vision to life, starting to create a positive digital impact from their transformed garage in Eastbourne.

In the era when dial-up internet was the norm and before Facebook had emerged, Switchplane came into being and has since become an innovative force in digital transformation. The engineering team work across a range of sectors including construction, manufacturing, education, wellbeing, logistics, travel, and insurance in the UK.

The journey of growth and innovation

Over the years, Switchplane has consistently broken new ground. From building award-winning applications like the Stay Alive app for Grassroots Suicide Prevention to transforming the internal processes at Littlewood Fencing, the brothers and team have proven their mettle time and again.

Switchplane's continual growth is also testament to their dedication. From their humble beginnings, they have expanded to a robust team, welcomed a myriad of clients, and moved into larger offices, all while maintaining long-standing relationships with clients across the UK including wholesalers H&B Supplies in Cardiff, and local firm, Littlewood Fencing.

Switchplane has also launched a unique SaaS product, Julia Can Help, aiming to alleviate a persistent issue for Allied Health Professionals across the UK by helping them to record, reflect, and report on their auditable CPD activities.

Eastbourne’s digital community and looking ahead

Believing firmly in Eastbourne's potential as the next digital hub, Switchplane launched Chalk Eastbourne in 2020, a digital community which aims to improve the perception of Eastbourne, support young talent, and make recruitment easier for digital businesses in the town. They are spearheading the organisation of the showcase event, Eastbourne DigiFest, which takes place at the Welcome Building on 22nd September this year.

As they look forward to the next 20 years, Switchplane has already hit the ground running with the launch of a refreshed brand and website.

Joel, the CEO, reflects on the past two decades, saying, “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved and the exceptional team we've built.

He adds, “As we venture into our third decade, we’re excited about the challenges and transformations ahead. We'll continue to sit at the intersection of business and technology, helping businesses harness the power of the latest technology to effect meaningful change.”
